Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesSonny Weems got his first start Wednesday night at the ACC when the Toronto Raptors hosted the Miami Heat.Weems got the nod due to an injury to rookie DeMar DeRozen and found himself face to face with one of the greats in the NBA, the Miami Heats' Dwyane Wade.In the first quarter Weems went off the glass, hit a couple driving hook shots, dunked the ball, and went four-of-four from the field and one-for-one from the line for nine points.Defensively he did as well as you can ask against one of the premier scorers in the Kansas City Chiefs jersey
NBA, holding Wade to just four points in eight minutes but was a -7. Wade caught fire ending the quarter with 14 points, though only 10 of which were scored while Weems was on the floor.Weems showed versatile skills including driving the hoop and either throwing it down or dumping it off along with being able to find someone in the low post from the outside, all with his own creative angle. His athleticism and natural ability is obvious, and as he continues to learn and grow in the NBA, this guy is going to shine.Though Weems only scored two more free throws the rest of the game, playing a total 25:56, he ended up a +8 with 10 points, three assists, and a big W, 111-103, against the Miami Heat in his first start in the NBA.
